Further expansion of the knowledge campus with the development of the Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics centre (STEM). The Centre – furnished with the latest technology and industry-standard equipment – stands at the heart of Bolton’s town centre, next to the College’s Deane Road campus.
A new University Technical College (UTC) - The town’s newest educational institution opened its doors to 270 new students on 4th September 2015. Situated in Bolton’s Education Zone, UTC Bolton specialises in health sciences and engineering technologies for students age 14-19.
The creation of a new Academic Village - A £40 million student village accommodating up to 850 students is to be built in the heart of Bolton town centre. This will replace the university’s existing halls; Orlando Village, on Thynne Street, and The Hollins on Radcliffe Road.
Grade A office developments at the new rail and bus interchange in Bolton town centre - construction of the office development is expected to start in late 2015 with completion scheduled for early 2017.
The transformation of Market Place Shopping Centre to incorporate a nine screen cinema and a host of new restaurants, created by opening up the vaulted basement of the old market.

Aldi are building a 600,000 sq m, distribution centre on a 35 acre plot to support their growing business in the North of England, due to open in spring 2016. In the five years after opening, Aldi hopes to create an additional 100 jobs at the centre and 300 jobs in new stores across the North West.
MBDA is a multi-national group designing and producing missiles and missile systems. They have taken an eight-acre site for the development of a new 100,000 sq ft facility which will combine manufacturing space with offices.
Joy Global, manufacturers of mining equipment have purchased 8 acres and are on site constructing their new warehouse and office facility.

Latest data from the Labour Insight Tool
Data from the Labour Insight Tool shows that over the last year there have been nearly 13,500 jobs posted electronically in Bolton. The first chart shows the top 25 most common job titles to be posted; health and social care, teaching and IT feature frequently.
The second chart gives an indication of the employers who are posting the vacancies. Not surprisingly the public sector makes a significant contribution to these.
