Parents and Carers

Young people overwhelmingly state that their family are more influential in the career choices they make than their friends, their teachers and careers staff in school. As a parent or carer the support you provide to your child at all stages of their education will be invaluable to their achievements and outcomes.

The following resources are designed to help you ensure the support you are offering is informed and relevant and to help schools reach out to parents.

  • What does the research say – read more about how parents and carers are shaping the education and career choices young people make
  • The importance of Maths and English – hear about how Maths and English are a critical part of any future career path
  • Employer case study – a case study exploring the BT apprenticeship programme. This page also has links to further case studies, watch the video clips to hear what it really means to be an Apprentice
  • List of useful websites – a directory of useful websites for further reading around careers education and the options open to young people

Note to schools: We would like to encourage schools to link to this site directly from the parental area of your school website
